Clement, Christopher

Senior Advisor on International Transportation and Trade Matters, Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Christopher Clement serves as a Senior Advisor on international transportation and trade matters within the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation. He is responsible for the Department’s engagement in APEC, ASEAN, and pan-Asia matters. Among his broad and diverse duties, Mr. Clement manages the Department’s participation in The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). He also monitors international best practices in public-private partnership (PPP) frameworks to help U.S. cities and states better incorporate private capital into their transportation infrastructure projects. Prior to joining the U.S. Department of Transportation, he served as the Director for Asia-Pacific Trade Investment Policy at the U.S. Department of Commerce, assisting U.S. firms encountering trade or investment barriers in the Asia-Pacific region. Before that role, he served as the Manager for Global Business Attraction with SelectUSA, a U.S. government-wide initiative to attract foreign direct investment to the United States, which is housed within the U.S. Department of Commerce. He began his government service as a Policy Analyst at the Export-Import Bank of the United States. Mr. Clement has worked at law firms in New York City and Washington, DC where he conducted research on, among other things, foreign investment laws, Islamic Finance, and economic conditions in emerging market countries. He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. He lives in Silver Spring, Maryland with his wife and two sons.
